ABOUT THE ART TEACHER
The school's owner and main instructor, CATHERINE CARTER has been an artist and art educator for more than 25 years.
As an art educator, Catherine taught drawing, painting, and color theory at the college level for 21 years. She also served as an instructor at art museums in Attleboro, Framingham, New Bedford, Newport, and Worcester. She opened her own art school at Hatch Street Studios in New Bedford in 2018. She holds a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from Lesley University, and a Diploma from the School of Fashion Design.
In support of her business, Catherine completed the EforAll! program as part of the Summer 2024 cohort, and secured grants through New Bedford Creative and the New Bedford Economic Development Council.
As an artist, Catherine creates colorful abstract paintings, collages, and works on paper inspired by calligraphic marks, textile weaves, and natural lines such as branches and roots. Her artwork has been displayed at a variety of venues including the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Marin County Museum of Contemporary Art, and the United States Embassies in Oman and Cameroon through the Art In Embassies Program.
