MEET CATHERINE
Hello there! I am Catherine, the school's owner and main teacher. I have been an artist and art educator for more than 25 years.
As an art educator, I taught drawing, painting, and color theory at the college level for 21 years. I also served as an instructor at art museums in Attleboro, Framingham, New Bedford, Newport, and Worcester. I opened my own art school at Hatch Street Studios in New Bedford in 2018. I hold a Master of Fine Arts Degree in Painting from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies from Lesley University, and a Diploma from the School of Fashion Design.
In support of my business, I completed the Entrepreneurship for All Program as part of the Summer 2023 cohort. I have also secured grants through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, New Bedford Creative and the New Bedford Economic Development Council.
As an artist, I create colorful abstract paintings, collages, and works on paper inspired by calligraphic marks, textile weaves, and natural lines such as branches and roots. My artwork has been displayed at a variety of venues including the United States Embassies in Oman and Cameroon through the Art In Embassies Program, and is held in such collections as the Boston Public Library and the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. I have received artist grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the St. Botolph Club Foundation. For more information, visit my website at CatherineCarterFineArt.com.
Painting and teaching are my passions, and sharing the joy of creativity is my calling in life!
