ABOUT THE SCHOOL

CATHERINE CARTER ART STUDIO welcomes everyone who is interested in discovering the joy of creative self-expression.

LOCATION

Our studio classroom is located at Hatch Street Studios, 88 Hatch Street, Space 210B, in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

CONTACT

We can be reached via text at 774.400.0401 or via email at Catherine@CatherineCarterPainting.com.

SAFETY

We are currently offering all of our classes online, but are looking forward to the day when it's safe to return to in-person teaching.

FORMAT

We begin each class with a review of our art project of the day, then students follow along at their own pace as the teacher demonstrates. There   are regular check-ins with each individual student throughout the class, and a final wrapup at the end. Projects are different each week, so if you have taken a class before, you will have a new experience each time.

PAYMENT

Tuition payment can be made through Venmo to @Catherine-Carter-Art-Studio, or with a credit or debit card by clicking on the SHOP button below the course description. Once you have registered for a class, we will email you with the appropriate Zoom meeting number and passcode information, as well as a list of suggested art materials.

We look forward to creating with you!

HISTORY

Catherine has taught art for more than 25 years. She was an adjunct professor at Framingham State University for 16 years, and has served as an instructor at art museums in Attleboro, Framingham, New Bedford, Newport, and Worcester. She opened her own school at Hatch Street Studios in 2018, and since that time has offered classes and workshops in drawing and painting to ages 10 to 15 as well as adult students. In 2019, she was approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to offer professional development points to public school teachers. Her program serves everyone from absolute beginners who want to learn basic techniques to experienced artists who are searching for their own voice.

TESTIMONIALS

"We cannot sing Catherine's praises enough! Her work with our daughter over the past year has allowed our girl to blossom as an artist and a student. Catherine is creative and encouraging, while at the same time bringing a wealth of experience to help our daughter grow as an artist." -- Alison Wallace, parent

"My daughter has now taken three different classes with Catherine, and they have all been amazing in different ways. When I asked Josephine if she wanted to sign up for a second section of Realistic Drawing, she replied, 'Of course I do! Do you know how much I am learning?!' Catherine is a great teacher for the dedicated young artist and the casual artist. She has an authentic connection with children and draws out the best in them. My daughter and I both feel very lucky to have found such a dedicated and talented art teacher." -- Corinna Raznikov, parent

"I have loved taking classes with Catherine. I have learned so much about drawing in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. She has a unique method of teaching the techniques of drawing. She provides clear explanations and demonstrations for every level of learning. I would highly recommend her to anyone who has a desire to learn or improve their drawing skills." -- Cherry Hall, student

"Fantastic teacher! Catherine really knows how to bring out the best in her students, regardless of ability level. Her classes are fun, yet still packed with information and exercises that teach skills you can use to become a better artist." -- Jack Babb, student

"I came to Catherine Carter's class without any experience in botanical drawing, or in the use of colored pencils. I quickly became much more observant and precise in my drawings and alert to the possibilities of the colored pencil. Her instruction and approach made rapid progress possible." -- Tom Kennedy, student

"I learned so much about color in Catherine's class, and for me, color confidence is the key to a successful, mood evoking piece. She absolutely, with playful experimentation and her signature kindness, coaxed out my reluctant inner artist." -- Jane Woodbridge, student

"I couldn't share enough positive comments about Catherine Carter as an artist, as a teacher, and as an adviser! She is the consummate professional, and I am proud to endorse her fully in any capacity. And, most importantly, her classes are FUN and suitable for all ages!" -- Renee Richard Ouellette, student
