ABOUT THE ART SCHOOL

Here's what makes our program so unique!
• OPTIONS FOR INDIVIDUALITY - In our classes, students select their own projects from our wide variety of reference options, including such subject matter as landscape, still-life, botanicals, portraits, fantasy, abstraction, and animals of all kinds. After the first class, once we have gotten to know the student, we design special projects just for them. This helps them to tap into and express their own unique creative voice.

• EXPERIENCE WITH MULTIPLE MATERIALS - We offer a wide variety of art supplies, including graphite pencil, colored pencil, colored markers, watercolor paint, acrylic paint, and paper collage. This gives students a chance to try a range of wet and dry media to discover what each one does best and see what they are drawn to naturally.

• INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION - Our classes are capped at 6 seats, allowing for personalized attention tailored to each student's interests and level of experience.

• UNIQUE LOCATION - Our school is located at Hatch Street Studios, a fully renovated, former textile mill originally constructed in 1907. The building is now home to the Hatch Street Artists Association, a blossoming creative community of more than 65 professional artists and artisans. Our sunny and spacious classroom, once filled with looms staffed by diligent workers, reveals its previous identity through its giant windows and beautiful wooden floors.

• CONVENIENT HOURS - Our classes meet after school, on Saturdays, during school vacations, and over the summer, so they fit conveniently into busy schedules.

• YEARS OF EXPERIENCE - We first opened our doors here at Hatch Street Studios in 2018! Owner and instructor Catherine Carter has been teaching drawing and painting to all ages for more than 25 years.

• ONGOING RELATIONSHIPS - Students often take our classes for years, sometimes returning as teaching assistants once they pass our age range.
We Look Forward to Encouraging Your Child's Love of Art!
